Winter Workshops 2010
Workshops meet Saturdays 10 - 2:30, 4224 Dewey Road, Bellingham

Monotypes

Create Multi-colored layered prints on paper using a variety of techniques and materials. Making monotypes is a playful action-packed process due to the many possibilities the medium provides to create texture, color and depth in a print. Learn various techniques for drawing and painting directly on plates and methods to create textures using wood, plant fibers and everyday objects like laundry soap lids, fabric and foil. Other topics covered will include how to make layered prints, how to use stencils to mask out areas when reprinting and studio safety.

Color Reduction Relief Printing

This is the perfect workshop for beginning and intermediate printmakers to learn how to make multi-colored relief prints using one plate. Cut a design into an eraser-like material (safety cut) using linoleum cutting tools, roll ink on the plate and make 10 prints to start. Then cut away more, print over your initial 10 prints in another color and repeat. Some topics covered include safe cutting practices, plate design and registration.
